Kidney stones are hard deposits of minerals and acid salts that stick together in concentrated urine. They usually don't cause permanent damage, but can be painful when passing through the urinary tract.

Kidney stones are often formed when your urine contains more crystal-forming substances, than the fluid in the urine can dilute (like calcium, palate and uric acid.

The main risk factors include:

Family or personal History, Dehydration, High protein, and sodium diets, Obesity, Digestive diseases and surgery, and other medical conditions like hyperparathyroidism, cystinuria, renal tubular acidosis and so on.

These factors can lead to various types of kidney stones like

  • Calcium stones
  • Struvite stones
  • Uric acid stones and
  • Cystine stones

People often have a doubt that natural foods like fruits and vegetables lead to kidney stones.

Some such vegetables in which people doubt are cabbage and tomatoes.

Cabbage, A cruciferous vegetable, is loaded with calcium, Vitamin C, sodium, and potassium and is low in oxalates.

Vitamin C boosts calcium absorption and hinders its excess excretion from the body and more potassium content prevents the urine from becoming too acidic and also prevents the formation of mineral crystals that can lead to kidney stones by attaching with the calcium in the urine.

Tomatoes too are low in oxalates and are rich in calcium, vitamin C (which improves calcium absorption) and high potassium content, prevents acidic urine excretion and binds with calcium which in turn hinders stone formation in the urine.

Hence, consuming Cabbage or tomatoes or both together cannot lead to kidney stones. In fact, they help prevent it.

Hence, one can consume it without any hesitation and fear of having any health problems.
