What is Ammonia?

Ammonia is an odorous and colourless gas which has dissolved in water, nitrogen and hydrogen atoms to form an alkaline solution. Today, many cosmetic and household products use this building-block chemical.

It opens the hair's cuticles to deposit dye on the cortex; Ammonia swells hair. Hair dye lasts longer when hair absorbs more colour. It's natural and present everywhere. Air, soil, water, plants, animals, and humans contain Ammonia.

Why Is Ammonia Used In Hair Dye?

"Demi-permanent," "semi-permanent," and "temporary" dyes do not contain Ammonia. Because the dye molecules only deposit colour on top of the hair shaft, these colours fade.

But it's best to go into bleaching or colouring, knowing that Ammonia on dyed hair is permanent until the strands grow out and the damage is cut off.

Ammonia-based hair dyes are safe unless you are allergic or sensitive to stronger chemicals.

In Simple words, To make hair colour permanent or last longer, Ammonia is added to Hair dyes. Coconut MEA, like Ammonia, is used for a "permanent" colour.

 

Is Ammonia Safe To Use?

Ammonia is safe in moderation. It dyes hair best, but it has drawbacks.

1. Ammonia can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. 

2. Regular usage of Ammonia can damage hair, and be harmful to your health.

3. It has a strong odour.

4. If possible prefer to use ammonia-free hair dye because natural is natural
 

Always remember not to use it on colour-treated hair. It will strip even your lightest blonde tones, leaving you with a weird brassy mess of hair. Sometimes we get allergies and other complications
