Celebrate Devi Navratri to get blessings from Maa Durga Devi, the powerful goddess in Hinduism. And Learn Navratri Days: 5 Mistakes You Never Make.
Below is the list of “don’ts” to be followed in the Navratri festival:
1. Ignoring Purity and Cleanliness
Navratri is a festival of both physical and spiritual purification. Not cleaning the home, especially the area for the puja, is considered one of the biggest mistakes.
It is believed that Goddess Durga comes to the homes of her devotees, and a place full of stuff or dirt can seriously destroy the flow of positive energy.
2. Eating the Wrong Foods
The main feature of Navratri is keeping a sattvic diet. Those who accept the fast are strictly forbidden to eat flesh, drink wine and eat “tamasic” foods like onions and garlic.
Besides that, there is also the avoidance of packaged and processed foods because they may have ingredients that are not allowed.
3. Skipping Rituals and Prayers
Navratri duration is filled with positive energy and utmost devotion.
Not doing the daily rites such as lighting the diya (lamp), and not chanting devi slakas properly , or not reciting the Durga Saptashati properly is the most disrespectful to the Goddess.
Great Tip :
” Without any interruption, worship is the greatest aid to God’s blessings.”
4. Engaging in Negative Behaviour
The divine festival time is for spiritual growth and self-control. So, be away from negative thinking and acts.
The mistakes of getting into an argument, using offensive language, and lying are ways of breaking the sacredness of the fast and rituals.
5. Neglecting Personal Discipline
Most devotees follow festival traditions along with a set of personal disciplines, which are not shaving, avoiding hair and nail cuts, and not sleeping on a bed.
The purpose of these practices is to teach modesty and to gain control over the senses, thereby concentrating on God rather than material gains.
