Today's average 30-year-old man has approximately 17 percent less testosterone than a 30-year-old male at the start of the 21st century.

Symptoms of low testosterone in Women

Women have had less testosterone treatment research than men. Women's testosterone ranges are lower than men's (15–70 ng/dL). Five Low testosterone level symptoms in women include:

  • Sluggishness.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Weight increase, fatigue.
  • Sleep disturbances and mood swings.

Researchers found that Low testosterone levels in women over 65 increased their risk of anemia by lowering hemoglobin.

The University of Rochester Medical Center recommends 15–70 ng/dl testosterone for women. Women's "low" testosterone levels are not yet defined.

Symptoms of low testosterone in children

Decreased testosterone during puberty in boys can cause:

  • The decreased growth of pubic hair.
  • Reduced penis and testicular growth.
  • Less vocal inflection.
  • Diminished strength and endurance
  • Despite the slowed increase in height, their arms and legs may continue to grow out of proportion with the rest of their body.

Some low-testosterone guys have no symptoms. Low testosterone can cause poor sex drive, low sperm count, sleep issues like insomnia, decreased muscle size and strength, bone and hair loss, increased body fat, hot flashes, trouble concentrating, and erection problems.

Memory and testosterone levels drop with aging. Doctors believe reduced testosterone levels may damage memory.

A study conducted in 2019 concluded that testosterone supplementation improves cognition in older adults with low testosterone. Yet, the effect is minimal.

A 2017 research  found no memory gains among 493 males with low testosterone levels who received testosterone or a placebo,


4 Mood Swings and Depression

In a 2016 study, it was found, Low-T men aged 21–41 were more likely to be diagnosed with depression than the control group.

Testosterone crosses into the brain, which may impact brain cell development, create new neural connections that bias thoughts towards the positive, and regulate feel-good neurotransmitters.

Researchers are still studying the relationship between testosterone and mood. Without enough testosterone, those cognitive benefits may not occur.

5 Anemia

The Journal of the American Medical Association found a relationship between testosterone insufficiency and anemia in older men.

One more 2017 study states, Anemic men with low testosterone had higher blood counts when given testosterone gel than when given a placebo.
