Home remedies for a cough are something that one should know in order to tackle it. A cough is a reflex caused in the respiratory tracts with a sharp sound. 1. Saltwater

Take some water, warm it up. Add a generous amount of salt in it. Gargle with salt water every morning once you wake up and once before going to bed. Doing this on a regular basis helps you get rid of a cough soon.

2. Honey:

Honey has not been a cure for a cough but also a cure for many other ailments. Due to its analgesic properties, it helps in the soothing of the throat. It is also used in most of the cough syrups as it is highly beneficial.

One can take honey, in a raw state in amounts of 2-3 teaspoons, or you can also add it in warm milk and drink it. Doing this for a week will help get rid of a cough very soon.

3. Turmeric:

Turmeric contains an active agent named as curcumin. These active agents have strong anti-bacterial, anti-viral and also anti-inflammatory properties.

As it is seen the turmeric milk passed on from generation to generation, generous amounts of turmeric powder added in warm milk helps you not only get rid of a cough but also any type of viral infections in your respiratory tracts.

4. Ginger:

Ginger is also a natural analgesic, and that's the reason why it is highly used in all the cough syrups and lozenges. It helps soothe any kind of scratchiness and irritation caused by a sore throat. As it also has high anti-inflammatory properties, it leaves a cleansing effect on the respiratory system.

Take a piece of ginger and crush it. Put it into the water, and start boiling it. Once this water cools down, drain the ginger and take this water at least thrice in a day.

5. Steam:

Exposing your face to the steam helps loosen the mucus and phlegm and betters your condition. You can also add certain essential oils, and take advantage as they help you cure your cough.

Take a bowl of hot water, a clean towel and also add few drops of eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil. Now lean your face in front of the bowl and cover yourself with the towel, now breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth. Do this process regularly for best results.

6. Garlic:

Just like ginger, garlic also contains an active agent known as allicin, which makes it have anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-viral properties. It is the most effective home remedy for a dry cough rather than a wet cough. It not only helps you to get rid of a cough, It also boosts the immune system and helps you fight with any type of infections of the body.

Boil a glass of water and add few cloves of garlic to it, once it starts boiling, add a few leaves of oregano. Now cool this mixture off, add honey to it and drink it twice in a day. This is one of the best home remedies for a cough
