5 effective ways you can lead an active life: For All Ages
Figuring out how much exercise we actually need can be confusing. Here’s a quick, everyday guide to keeping the whole family moving:
- Babies (Under 1): Keep them active with interactive play, and make sure they get at least 30 minutes of tummy time spread out over the day.
- Toddlers (Ages 1–4): Little ones should be moving for about three hours daily. Once they hit three or four years old, try to make sure an hour of that is high-energy play.
- Kids & Teens (Ages 5–17): They need a solid hour of heart-pumping activity every day, plus bone-building exercises (like running, jumping, or climbing) three times a week.
- Adults (Ages 18–64): The sweet spot for this age group is 150 to 300 minutes of moderate cardio weekly—like brisk walking or cycling. Don’t forget to mix in strength training at least twice a week.
- Seniors (65+): Stick to the adult routine, but add in balance and coordination exercises to stay steady and prevent falls.
- Pregnant & Postpartum Moms: Try to get in 150 minutes of moderate weekly activity. A gentle blend of walking, light strength work, and stretching is perfect.
