Fasting during Navratri does not mean you have to live on oily food and heavy sweets for nine days.

You can eat relatively well, keep your energy up, and yet follow all the restrictions and not feel deprived.

Explore 9 Healthy Foods You Can Eat During Navratri Vrat

Here’s a brief rundown of what you really need to be eating:

1. Peanuts: Just a handful of roasted peanuts may be a lifesaver when you suddenly feel famished. Just don’t go crazy and overdo it since the calories may add up quickly.

2. Makhana: The perfect crunchy nibble. Dry-roast them, not in ghee; they’re a perfect match when you’re in the mood for potato chips.

3. Buckwheat: Leave the deep-fried puris alone. Try plain kuttu rotis or a cheela instead. So filling and tastes awesome with some dahi on the side.

4. Singhara Flour: This is yet another good alternative if you are looking to produce light and simple-to-digest rotis.

5. Sweet potatoes: Much healthier than conventional fried potatoes. Boil or bake them and add a little yoghurt for a wonderfully satisfying micro dinner.

6. Sabudana: We all adore khichdi, but come on, it’s just pure starch. Use a small bowl and add enough crushed peanuts and allowed vegetables to balance.

7. Whole fruit: Apples, papayas, guavas – eat them whole to obtain the fiber. Avoid fruit juices since they just boost your blood sugar.

8. Light veggies: Choose basic lauki (bottle gourd), pumpkin or cucumber depending on what your family permits during vrat.

9. Dahi: A dish of plain, unsweetened curd is a lifesaver. It cools your stomach down and offers you a terrific protein boost.

Basically, keep it simple, drink plenty of water and don’t approach the fast as a junk food carnival. And if you’re diabetic or on medication, certainly consult with your doctor before you start your fast!
