A cough is a common problem that occurs in all age groups. It is defined as a sudden and repetitive reflex action meant to remove the mucus from the throat or air passageways. A majority of people use syrups and other medication.

But there are simple home remedies for a cough. These home remedies are very simple and cure the severity of a cough and also the duration of this problem.

Types Of Cough:

Despite its type, constant cough can be very irritating as well as unpleasant. If you are aware of the type of a cough you are suffering from, it will be easy for you to diagnose it properly. There are two types of a cough in general

  • Drinking lots of fluids and taking plenty of rest is one of the simplest methods to cure a cough
  • Another effective method is the juice of the wood apple. It helps to remove the mucous in the trachea.
  • Onion is another common remedy for a cough. You can either consume it as raw or stew it to get relief from chest congestion.
  • It is best to avoid refrigerated foods or fried foods, as these will exaggerate the condition.
  • Eating cabbage, bitter gourd, cucumber, turnip, carrots, spinach, and tomato is very beneficial in boosting the immunity system.
  • Consuming garlic during the night at least twice a week will prevent cold and a cough.
  • Prefer drinking lukewarm water if you are suffering from a cough, as this will have a soothing effect on your throat.
  • Sucking a lemon with black pepper powder and some salt will help in reducing the intensity of a cough.
  • Dry dates boiled in milk are also beneficial for a cough.
  • Keep one or two cloves in the mouth and suck occasionally to reduce the irritation in the throat.
  • Ginger is an effective home remedy for cough. Consume freshly grated ginger with honey to get relief from a cough.

Before trying, any of these home remedies for frequent coughing please make sure that you are not allergic to any of the materials used in the remedies. A cough is not a serious health issue. However, if you are taking medications for other ailments then, you must check for drug interactions with your caregiver.

Some of the herbs and natural ingredient interfere with your normal treatments. Hence, precaution is necessary.

It may be difficult for the individual to decide when they should go to the doctor. If a cough is painful and lasts for more than two to three weeks, then consult a doctor.
