Hyperthyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland produces too much or excess of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4 or both).

Hyperthyroidism can be controlled by bringing effective changes to our daily lifestyle.

There are several food choices which can help control thyroid levels substantially and boost the process of healing and improving.

Foods to eat for hyperthyroidism:

1. Include dairy products like cheese, milk, curd- to prevent calcium loss from bone.

2.Food rich in Vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acid content like fish, mushrooms, egg etc.

3.Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage -  help in decreasing the amount of thyroid hormone.

4. Include berry family from strawberries, blackberries, raspberries - a rich source of antioxidant and boosts immunity.

5. Healthy fats mainly from seeds and nuts (unprocessed)-help in reducing inflammation and also protect and balance thyroid hormones.

6.Some spices and herbs-possess anti-inflammatory properties to help protect and also strengthens the immune system.

Foods to avoid for hyperthyroidism:

1. Artificial sweeteners - try to avoid completely.

2. Processed and unhealthy food must be avoided.

3. Keep control of sugar intake.

4. Daily sodium intake must be monitored closely.

5. Excess iodine-eating too much iodine-rich food may lead to Hyperthyroidism.

6. Some medications also contain Iodine such as a) Amiodarone b) Medical contrast dyes c) Cough syrups d) herbal or vitamin supplements.

7. Nitrates-cause thyroid to absorb too much iodine results in enlarged thyroid and hyperthyroidism.

Food rich in Nitrates are:

1.Processed meats (sausage, salami, bacon)  

2.Celery

3.Lettuce   

4.Beets

5.Spinach 

6.Fennel

7.cucumber  

8.pumpkin

9.carrots

10.cabbage
